Bali Art Festival 2007

Artists from across Bali, Indonesia and abroad are Bali bound to participate in the 29th Annual Bali Arts Festival June 16 July 1, 2007.

Conceived and created 29 years ago by Bali’s cultural visionary, then-Governor Ida Bagus Mantra, the Bali Arts Festival has grown to become a staple on the Island’s cultural calendar. Night after night from June 16 through July 14, 2007, Bali’s best gamelan orchestras, dance and drama groups, and visiting artists from overseas will take to the stage at various performance venues around Denpasar.

This year’s festival will see foreign artists from China and Japan perform.

As in year’s past, the Bali Arts Festival will commence with a massive parade of artists and Balinese culture centered in the Renon district of downtown Denpasar commencing at 3:00 p.m.

OGOH-OGOH

The Hindu new year, Nyepi, is celebrated in the spring by a day of silence. On this day everyone stays at home and tourists are encouraged to remain in their hotels. On the preceding day large, colorful sculptures of ogoh-ogoh monsters are paraded and finally burned in the evening to drive away evil spirits.

Melasti Beach of Sanur BaliNyepi is the day marking the first day of the Balinese Saka calendar and is strictly observed island-wide with a day of absolute silence and meditation, including the shut down for a 24 hour period of the island’s airport.

it is a Balinese “Day of Silence” that falls on Bali’s Lunar New Year (March 20, 2007). It is a day of silence, fasting, and meditation.

Whirlwind hits Bali!

The weather in Bali was forecasted to be bad until two or three days to come, Sutrisno, spokesman of the Denpasar meteorology and geophysics office, said here on Wednesday.

In Denpasar, capital of Bali province, very strong wind from western and southwestern directions at a speed of up to 50 km per hour caused a number of trees to fall on. Two cars were damaged as trees fell on top of them.

Visitors are generally welcome if properly attired in temple scarf and sarong. Dance is at the very centre of Balinese life you can see dance live performance at temples to dance rehearsal at local dance troupe with such musical names as Gong Kebyar, Panyembrama, Baris, Rejang ,there are over 200 dances some of them are combination of drama, poetry, opera & song.
